At Legally Pink Law, PLLC, we’ve had a lot of experience assisting motorcycle accident victims. We’d like to take the time to talk about ways to protect yourself before a life-changing accident takes place.
When a car hits a motorcycle, there are no winners. However, the people in the car have a protective shell. On a bike you are susceptible to all kinds of injury, particularly head trauma. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “In the event of a crash, no strategy or safety equipment offers protection comparable to a FMVSS 218 compliant helmet. There are no compelling arguments against helmet use.” FMVSS stands for Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
According to statistics, riders without helmets are three times more likely to suffer brain injury versus riders wearing helmets. Riders wearing safety compliant helmets have walked away from accidents that otherwise would have left them seriously injured. Though some riders wearing helmets can perish as the result of an accident, they have generally sustained additional serious injuries.
While Florida law does not require you to wear a helmet if you are over 21 and have at least $10,000 in medical insurance, we strongly recommend wearing one. We know that accidents are inevitable no matter the precautions you take, so call your Orlando motorcycle accident attorney if you find yourself victim of a motorcycle accident.
